A Lemon Themed Baby-Q Shower
After making gifts for baby showers for 12 years, I was THRILLED to be able to throw a shower for my brother and sister-in-law’s first baby girl. They had a very small pandemic wedding, we decided to have a co-ed “baby-q” so everyone who was not able to attend the wedding could celebrate together. Since the shower was co-ed, we wanted something that was not overly girly, but was still fun and adorable. When I saw the lemon baby-q invitations at Minted, I fell in love and knew they would be the perfect theme for this summer baby shower.
With this being an outdoor event, we had a lot of space to fill! We wanted the shower to be spread over the back lawn as opposed to crammed in one area. We kept food and the guest book table on the deck and then spread tables over the lawn. At the back corner of the lawn was the bar and beverages. This kept the shower flowing and guests interacting.
At the entrance of the shower, we placed a welcome sign and the gift table for guests to drop their gifts right as they walked in. We decorated the table with a Baby Blossom bouquet and an adorable lemon felt banner. We placed oversized helium balloons with paper garland strings all over the yard to bring in pops of color to bare areas.
Pro shower tip: decorate one main table that serves as both the appetizer AND dessert tables. The backdrop was made from two pieces of construction foam from Home Depot cut into an arch shape. We covered the foam in white contact paper and then applied lemon decals made from printable vinyl.
Similar decals can be found HERE.
Off to one side of the arches, we hung a large, ombre balloon garland. To achieve the variation in the colors, we double-stuffed the balloons using white on top. We painted this OH BABY wood cutout pink and hung it from the top of the arches.
I love repurposing furniture from around the house for showers! For the food tables, we used our bedroom nightstands and my desk! The desk has a shallow drawer that was perfect for filling with tons of eucalyptus and hydrangea.
It wouldn’t be a Baby Blossom shower without an over-the-top diaper cake! Of course, for my first niece, we had to make our biggest cake to date standing at over 3 feet tall! We used lemon honeybee blankets from Cloud Island that matched the theme perfectly. We accessorized the cake with hand crafted felt flowers, lemons, and an acrylic topper in the baby’s first initial.
For table accents, we added whole and cut lemons and eucalyptus sprigs. We pinned name cards into hole lemons and placed them near the stands, so guests knew what each food was.
We just had to bring in the adorable pink gingham from the invitations somewhere, so we ordered these adorable gingham tablecloths and they were the perfect accent! For centerpieces, we used large vases filled with hydrangea and floated cut lemons in the base.
We couldn’t have a lemon themed baby shower without a lemonade stand! The dad-to-be is also a talented carpenter so we enlisted his help in creating this beautiful stand/bar. We served a variety of lemon theme cocktails in beverage dispensers – pink lemonade margarita, lemonade sangria and lemon water. For a little extra space, we set wooden crates next to the stand for cups, napkins, and wine.

Since this was a co-ed shower, we didn’t want to play any of the traditional baby shower games or activities. Instead, we had a photo album book where guests could snap a picture with a polaroid camera and write a message for the baby. This was a big hit with guests and an amazing keepsake for the parents!

The diaper cake and decorations were displayed in the Charlotte’s nursery until she was big enough to use the items. We had one final photoshoot before we took everything apart!
